26H126 and 26H180 crown finishes - Dimensions - alternative P point

Scope of application

This data sheet provides specifications and dimensions of the crown finishes for glass bottles with an alternative "P" point.
  • 26 H 126 mm shallow
  • 26 H 180 mm tall
This "P" point is smoother than in the original designs  (ISO 12821 - GLASS PACKAGING  - 26 H 180 CROWN FINISH - DIMENSIONS et  ISO 12822 - GLASS PACKAGING - 26 H 126 CROWN FINISH - DIMENSIONS), to improve safety during opening. However, the filler may need to review the crown material used, as this modification could affect the interaction between the crown cap and the finish and could affect the pressure retention

History
First edition: 06/2022 - Definition of crown neck finishes with smoother crimping point (P point), in order to offer an alternative improving safety during opening. Starting from the ISO 12821 and ISO 12822, this new document combines the presentation of the tall and shallow finishes, with the following specificities:
  • The Radius at P point is 1,2 mm instead of 0,5 on the ISO documents
  • The entry bore diameter is restricted to the range 16,5 / 18 mm; diameters until 18,5 are not allowed, for tightness reasons.

This permanent group is dedicated to the creation and revision of Cetie's "GME*" neck finishes data sheets, and also to the revision of equivalent neck finishes data sheets previously submitted to official standardisation (ISO and/or CEN), dedicated to the production of glass bottles and jars for the food and beverage sectors. These neck finishes data sheets concern the following applications: ROPP, aluminum screw caps, crown caps, twist-off caps, cork or synthetic stoppers, bar-top, or swing stoppers.

*Initiated by the glass industry in the 1960s, the acronym 'GME' stands for 'Glass Manufacturing Experimental'. The idea was that Cetie, as an unofficial standards body, would only publish 'experimental' data sheets, before submitting these to the official standards bodies. At the same time, in the USA, the acronym 'GME' was also used. As the original meaning was lost over time, this nomenclature for Cetie's glass finishes documents has been, later on, applied to the PET finish data sheets.
