Flaconnage geometry

WG chair:

Lorenzo PASQUALI - BORMIOLI LUIGI S.p.A.

Participants:

Joint group bringing together glassmakers dedicated to flacon production, pump manufacturers, perfumers/brands, crimping and filling machine manufacturers.

Scope:

This joint group aims to produce dedicated documentation on glass flacons for the cosmetics, perfume, and pharmacy sectors:
  • Cetie 'GME'* neck finishes data sheets concerning glass crimping neck finishes (FEA), screw neck finishes, neck finishes for pumps and snap-on neck finishes, etc.
  • All data sheets of the DT15 series, identifying tolerances and standard test methods applicable to molded glass flacons;
  • Data sheets concerning critical visual defects of flacons, neck finishes nomenclature, etc.
  • Guide of crimping recommendations.
*Initiated by the glass industry in the 1960s, the acronym 'GME' stands for 'Glass Manufacturing Experimental'. The idea was that Cetie, as an unofficial standards body, would only publish 'experimental' data sheets, before submitting these to the official standards bodies. At the same time, in the USA, the acronym 'GME' was also used. As the original meaning was lost over time, this nomenclature for Cetie's glass finishes documents has been, later on, applied to the PET finish data sheets.

Participants:

Permanent group gathering exclusively glass members, manufacturers of bottles and jars for the beverage and food industry, in charge of the neck finishes geometry.

Scope:

This permanent group is dedicated to the creation and revision of Cetie's "GME*" neck finishes data sheets, and also to the revision of equivalent neck finishes data sheets previously submitted to official standardisation (ISO and/or CEN), dedicated to the production of glass bottles and jars for the food and beverage sectors. These neck finishes data sheets concern the following applications: ROPP, aluminum screw caps, crown caps, twist-off caps, cork or synthetic stoppers, bar-top, or swing stoppers.

*Initiated by the glass industry in the 1960s, the acronym 'GME' stands for 'Glass Manufacturing Experimental'. The idea was that Cetie, as an unofficial standards body, would only publish 'experimental' data sheets, before submitting these to the official standards bodies. Guide - Synthetic stoppers on glass bottles

WG chair:

To be elected - -

Participants:

Joint group bringing together manufacturers of stoppers, glassmakers, manufacturers of filling and capping machines, laboratories, and manufacturers of inspection and control machines.

Scope:

The revision of GUIDE N° 1 - BOTTLING OF STILL WINES ON A CORK MOUTH FINISH completed at the beginning of 2024, does not apply to synthetic corks, containing less than 50% natural cork. This field, will therefore be covered in a dedicated document, to be drafted by the SYNTHETIC STOPPER's group.
Based on Guide No. 1, the group will review the aspects that are different for synthetic cork stoppers and which require a specific application, such as the overall functions of the cork stopper and its limits, the specifications, or the conditions of application required to efficiently fulfil the overall functions
This work mainly concerns the bottling of "still" wines.
The working group will also revise data sheet EC3.01 - GOOD PRACTICES FOR THE USE OF SYNTHETIC STOPPERS.

WG chair:

Crisóstomo-Joaquim RIBEIRO-FERREIRA - AMORIM CORK S.A.

Participants:

Joint group bringing together manufacturers of bar top stoppers (all materials), glassmakers, bottlers (spirits) and suppliers of glass containers, manufacturers of filling and capping machines, laboratories, and manufacturers of inspection and control ma

Scope:

This joint group is supervising the revision of GUIDE N°14 - BAR-TOP STOPPER APPLICATION ON GLASS FINISH FOR NON-CARBONATED BEVERAGES (GME 51.00) and supports the updates of its related documents.
This guide covers the technical characteristics of supplies, recommendations, good practices, and appropriate test methods implementations. This joint group develops the specifications and good practices to be implemented in order to obtain a corking that can be manually opened and re-stoppered by the consumer without requiring an opener. These will be limited to the application on glass bottles with stoppers whose sealing is ensured by the contact of the body of the stopper on the internal surface of the neck and completed with a capsule or an overcap sleeve. It potentially concerns the corking of all types of still liquids but is initially limited to alcoholic beverages for which the expertise is the most complete.

This guide doesn't cover the swing-top closure application.
