Weathering / Blooming

Scope of application

The defect weathering / blooming is haze on the inside or outside surface of a container created during storage of empty containers by a hydrolytic attack of glass due to atmospheric agents, especially humidity, carbon dioxide and temperature variation. The haze consists of microscopic crystal of sodium carbonate and/or calcium carbonate.  Also called Bloom.
