Controlling filling volumes in prepacked glass containers

Scope of application

The purpose of this guide is to explain the volume control systems to bottlers for glass bottle filling levels.
It describes the control methods to ensure compliance with the EU Directive 76/211 in terms of volume.
 
This document deals with the packaging of liquids in glass bottles, the packaging of glass jars is not covered as it is usually done with a dosing machine.
 
This guide does not describe the filling methods.

This joint group supervises the revision of the quality GUIDELINES N° 9 - CONTROL OF THE FILLING VOLUMES IN PREPACKED GLASS CONTAINERS and is accompanying the update of its related documents. This guide is intended to help bottlers apply the rules of French Directive No. 76/211 of 20 January 1976 to control the glass container's pre-packaged liquids' volumes. The guide covers the technical characteristics of the glass container and the legislation that applies to their commercial release, the various means and methods of measurement and control. It lists all the related standards and legal texts.
